A tragedy and possibly an end to an athletes career…

This past Saturday, football player of the Cleveland Browns Donte’ Stallworth, was driving the MacArthur Causeway and struck and killed a man by the name of Mario Reyes. Reyes was just coming off from working as an overnight crane operator and trying to cross the street to catch a bus home just after 7 a.m. Reyes died instantly at the scene. Whether Stallworth was under the influence or not is still to be determined and is under close investigation. The Miami Herald has a video on their website that shows Stallworth being given a sobriety test and Miami Beach rescue workers trying to help Reyes. This obviously made headlines all through the news because Stallworth is a star athlete and this could not only sentence him to a lifetime in prison, it could also damage his career in the NFL forever. There is definitely a serious matter but there is nothing that can be taken back, Reyes is gone. Would it be terrible if Stallworth gets off easy with just a slap in the wrist and nothing more? Even if he is really sorry and was not under the influence? All these things will be examined over the next couple of weeks. But what can not be taken care of is the loss of Mario Reyes to his family and loved ones. Hopefully this investigation brings some light onto this tragedy and hopefully Stallworth pays for what he did. Because Stallworth’s condolences will not make up for the loss he is blamed for.
